Position Overview
The Lead Patient Care Assistant (LPCA) plays a vital role in supporting the nursing team to execute patient care strategies at Schoen Clinic. This position involves taking on additional responsibilities as directed by the Clinical Manager, Senior Nurses, or fellow Health Care Assistants (HCAs). The LPCA will contribute to the effective operation of each shift, mentor junior staff, and ensure that all assigned duties are completed efficiently. The nursing team will outline the specific care strategies, and the LPCA will ensure that daily activities align with these plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to NICE guidelines in all aspects of care;
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients;
- Conduct regular physical assessments of patients as instructed by nursing staff and provide appropriate feedback;
- Assist and supervise patients during meal times, including support for alternative feeding methods when necessary;
- Perform clinical tasks for which training has been provided and competency verified;
- Collaborate with Staff Nurses and Occupational Therapists regarding unit activities;
- Report any concerns to Staff Nurses promptly;
- Follow Health and Safety protocols in line with Schoen Clinic standards;
- Uphold safeguarding principles in all interactions with patients and their families as appropriate;
- Represent Schoen Clinic professionally when engaging with families and visiting professionals.

Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- A solid educational background, ideally with NVQ level 2 or equivalent;
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Experience
- Proven interpersonal skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities;
- Capability to ensure safe practice;
- Experience in a healthcare environment;
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with patients;
- Familiarity with MS Office applications;
- Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team;
- Sensitivity in working with patients, caregivers, and families.
Desirable Skills
- Awareness of NICE guidelines and treatment approaches for eating disorders;
- Competence in performing basic physical assessments;
- At least one year of experience as an HCA in an inpatient setting;
- Commitment to equality and diversity;
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA);
- Understanding of safeguarding principles;
- Experience with IT-based patient record systems.
