Design Engineer for Core Engine Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Component Engineering department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the design and development of core engine systems, including rotating systems, valvetrain, castings, lubrication, breather, and cooling systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop engine components, including major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain, and in-cylinder components.
- Work with a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
- Develop solutions for issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments.
- Support FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
- Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews.
- Maintain communication with peers, team leader, and stakeholders regarding progress against planned activities.
- Develop drawings to the client's standards and other technical data to support the release of parts for prototype and volume production.
- Support field and production issues, determining root cause, implementing containment actions, and developing permanent corrective actions.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering).
- Knowledge of Core Engine systems, including Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather, and Cooling systems.
- Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes.
- Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles.
- Modelling & Detailing experience in CREO4.
- Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience of running and participating in FMEA.
- Ability to use CREO Simulate.
- Experience in component and engine validation & verification.
- Bolted joint and sealing experience.
- Design experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector.
- Knowledge and usage of Team Centre data management software.
- New design development following the APQP methodology.
- Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams.
