Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Component Engineering Base Engine Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing solutions to address challenging requirements, either within New Product Introduction or updates to existing platforms for a variety of our client and 3rd Party applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Packaging: Design and package a variety of core engine components, including major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain, and in-cylinder components.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Develop solutions for issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments.
  • Supplier Management: Develop strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations.
  • FMEA and Validation: Support FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
  • Reporting and Communication: Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews and maintain communication to peers, team leader, and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Support field and production issues, determine root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions.
Requirements
  • Technical Background: Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued.
  • Core Engine Systems: Knowledge of Core Engine systems such as Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather, and Cooling systems.
  • Manufacturing Principles: Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes and Manufacturing Assembly principles.
  • Design Tools: Modelling & Detailing experience in CREO4 and Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems.
  • Soft Skills: Self-motivation and an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments, excellent communications skills, and Teamwork.
Desirable Skills
  • FMEA Experience: Experience of running and participating in FMEA.
  • Simulation Tools: Ability to use CREO Simulate.
  • Validation and Verification: Experience in component and engine validation & verification.
  • Bolted Joints and Sealing: Bolted joint and sealing experience.
  • Design Experience: Design experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector.
  • Team Centre: Knowledge and usage of Team Centre data management software.
  • APQP: New design development following the APQP methodology.
  • Microsoft O365: Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams.
Working Hours and Salary

Monday to Thursday 08:30 - 16:45, Friday 08:30 - 16:15 (37 hours a week). Salary: Negotiable (depending on experience).
