About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Planning Officer to join our Development Management team at Lambeth Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a team of planners and validation officers, negotiating development outcomes, and managing a high-performing service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of planners and validation officers, providing guidance and supervision to ensure high-quality applications and reports.
  • Negotiate development outcomes with developers, investors, and other stakeholders, ensuring positive and solutions-led approaches.
  • Present applications to the Planning Applications Committee, ensuring reports and documents are of a high standard.
  • Deputise for the Area Team Manager as required.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in Development Management, ideally in a busy metropolitan area.
  • Effective management and leadership skills, with the ability to build team capabilities and engage with stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build good relationships with Members of the Planning Applications Committee.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • RTPI-recognised degree-level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent.
