Job Description

Commerzbank AG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Commodities trading desk in London as a Senior Trader covering Carbon and Power.

Key Responsibilities
  • Market make, manage risk, and keep senior staff informed of current risk positions, ensuring compliance with Carbon and Power market regulations.
  • Work with the Head of Commodity trading to implement optimal trading strategies on carbon and power assets, driving business growth and profitability.
  • Interact with OTC/listed brokers to ensure best execution, building strong relationships with trading counterparties.
  • Monitor market levels, competitor pricing, and reconcile risk and profit/loss figures on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Keep trading books within required risk limits, developing technical, market, product, and technological expertise consistent with the bank's strategic aims.
  • Act as subject matter expert on Carbon and Power within the bank, promoting the franchise with internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Support units, specifically IT, to set up new instruments/tools in trading systems, enabling efficient settlement and delivery of financial and physical carbon and power contracts.
  • Actively promote the Carbon and Power franchise with Sales teams, providing accurate and timely prices, trade ideas, and market comments.
  • Assist in the automation and digitization of the Carbon and Power business, coordinating projects and monitoring performance against objectives.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in Carbon and Power trading, with a strong understanding of Emissions trading schemes in the EU and UK (EU ETS and UK ETS).
  • Solid comprehension of the Carbon Voluntary market, with ability to conduct light due diligence on carbon projects and liaise with the Sustainability team.
  • Sharp technical expertise in Energy derivatives contracts, with a solid understanding of Energy supply and demand fundamentals in Europe.
  • Robust understanding of key end-consumers and suppliers in Europe and the UK, with ability to execute multiple Energy contracts efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, solid problem-solving abilities, and strong commercial mindset.
  • High entrepreneurial attitude required to develop a business, with an excellent P&L track record.
  • Education to degree level in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Econometrics, or similar highly quantitative discipline.
