Phlebotomy Technician

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to good laboratory practice and trust policies.
Main Responsibilities- To collect blood samples from patients as requested by an authorized officer, using venepuncture, skin puncture, or other approved methods.
- To communicate effectively and sensitively with patients concerning the phlebotomy procedure, with due respect for their welfare and dignity.
- To be physically able to undertake the requirements of the role, including standing, sitting, stretching, or reaching to take blood, raising and lowering phlebotomy chairs and beds, walking between wards and departments, pulling and pushing wheelchairs, and assisting colleagues with patients when necessary.
- To ensure that patient identification details are checked on every patient before the venepuncture procedure is performed, and to ensure correct labeling of sample tubes with patient details and the correlation of request forms with samples.
- To establish a relationship of trust and understanding with patients and other groups of staff, ensuring that a good public image and perception of Phlebotomy is maintained at all times.
- To provide an efficient, high-quality service to all patients of the Trust at all times.
- Basic numeracy and literacy.
- NVQ level 2 or 6 months of practical phlebotomy experience.
- 6 months of practical phlebotomy experience.
- Understanding of Health & Safety implications relevant to Phlebotomy.
- Patient & staff confidentiality.
