Your Contribution
This is a remarkable opportunity for you to engage in a groundbreaking machine learning-based software platform and an ambitious computational biology research initiative that aims to revolutionize the biopharmaceutical landscape. In a highly creative and iterative setting, you will collaborate with top engineers, scientists, and machine learning researchers to develop the essential platform that will facilitate this transformation. This newly established position requires you to leverage your prior experience and demonstrate initiative to define your role effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow engineers and scientists to construct the platform, applying artificial intelligence to biological systems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain extensive bioinformatics pipelines for the ingestion, management, and analysis of biological datasets, particularly -omics, imaging, and clinical data.
  • Conduct data analysis and ensure data quality in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Create and develop representations, models, and computational modules for biological data, optimized for AI research and production.
  • Contribute to the broader development of the data and computational platform, working alongside other engineers to architect, build, and operate its components.
  • Collaborate with team members to guarantee the quality, integrity, and scalability of data and pipelines.
  • Engage with a diverse array of teams, including Computational Biology, machine learning research, product development, business development, and operations.
  • Provide documentation, guidance, and communication on bioinformatics to the wider organization.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in bioinformatics, particularly in data engineering and pipeline development.
  • Experience in building scalable systems for the ingestion and preparation of large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of bioinformatics tools and methodologies, with familiarity in analyzing large biological datasets such as -omics, imaging, and clinical data.
  • Experience with common bioinformatics datasets and repositories.
  • Proficiency in programming and software engineering in languages such as Python, Java, Scala, C/C++, or Go.
  • Knowledge of data management tools and technologies, including ETL frameworks, database engines, and file/object storage solutions.
  • Some familiarity with cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated career progression and a passion for continuous learning.
  • A BSc/MSc degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with machine learning and building machine learning systems.
  • Familiarity with life science ontologies.
  • Experience in data curation.
  • Knowledge of data governance and lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in drug discovery.
  • Experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production systems on cloud platforms.
  • Strong expertise in Python.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and data visualization.
