Location: Dorchester, Dorset

Hours: 21 hours per week, 3 days per week, inclusive of weekends and bank holidays, and is subject to rota requirements.

Salary: £31,610 (pro rata) per annum rising incrementally to £32,850 (pro rata) per annum

About the Role

The Tolpuddle Martyrs' Museum, shop and festival commemorates the six farm workers who, in 1834, were punished for joining a union and later freed after a massive unions-led protest.

The Museum shows how the Tolpuddle Martyrs changed the face of social history and made a significant impact on society. Alongside the Museum and Shop, the grounds also host the annual Tolpuddle Martyrs' festival in July - a key event for UK trade unionists and supporters.

As a Curatorial Assistant, you will play a key role in promoting the Tolpuddle Martyrs' legacy. Your duties will include:

  • Handling sales transactions in store and online
  • Stock management
  • Securing the premises
  • Covering holiday periods (including bank holidays)
  • Assisting with the upkeep of the shop, museum, facilities and grounds

You will work closely with the Tolpuddle Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the Museum and Shop. This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive contribution towards the visitors' experiences and promote the Museum, its events and merchandise online.
