About the Role
We are currently seeking a legal advisor for a 12-month maternity cover position within ENGIE UK, focusing on our Renewables and Storengy sectors. The successful candidate will provide timely and commercially sound legal counsel, assisting in the negotiation and drafting of various commercial and contractual matters, including tenders, project agreements, construction contracts, supply chain negotiations, variations, and ongoing operational issues. Additionally, you will be involved in risk management, governance, and compliance.
We are open to part-time applicants who can work 3 to 4 days a week. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage their own negotiations and projects. This role will also support the Country General Counsel and Ethics Officer in ensuring compliance with UK Ethics standards and the implementation of Group Ethics policies.
This is a hybrid position based in our Leeds office, with the expectation of working on-site two days a week. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with the opportunity to contribute to the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support for a wide range of complex commercial outsourcing transactions, supporting the ENGIE UK business;
- Deliver commercial legal advice;
- Assist in the governance of transactions at both local and group levels;
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Group and with clients;
- Manage external legal resources for specific projects;
- Advise operational teams on strategies for disputes that have not yet been formalized;
- Experience in the energy sector is advantageous but not mandatory;
- Participate in the development and delivery of training on various topics for colleagues;
- Take ownership of and advance personal files and projects;
- Support compliance with ENGIE UK Ethics policies.
- Strong understanding of relevant legal areas, including outsourcing, construction, and commercial contracts. Familiarity with the energy sector is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage risk, governance, and compliance effectively.
- Capacity to handle a substantial workload in a dynamic environment.
- Proficient in stakeholder management while collaborating with colleagues at all organizational levels.
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK (or equivalent common law jurisdiction) with ideally 6 years or more of post-qualification experience. Flexibility will be considered based on the quality of experience.
- Experience in construction transactions and supply chain negotiations.
- Strong background in the commercial contracts lifecycle.
- Experience advising on pre-litigation contract disputes.
- Proven track record in leading complex transactions.
- Some familiarity with energy projects is preferred.
