Senior Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory and Field Senior Technician to join our Conservation Palaeoecology Lab at the Department of Geography. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of sediment and peat core samples for pollen and non-pollen microfossils, as well as macrofossils, and will also be involved in field work in and outside the UK.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of sediment and peat core samples for pollen and non-pollen microfossils, as well as macrofossils.
- Conduct field work in and outside the UK, including in remote locations.
- Assist in the day-to-day operation, management, and maintenance of the Conservation Palaeoecology Lab.
- Contribute to the production and interpretation of data for academic-led research in the specialist area of palaeoecology.
- Coordinate laboratory and equipment bookings to ensure spaces and equipment are well maintained and readily accessible.
We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor-degree level qualification in Geography or a related subject, and a breadth of technical research skills relevant to physical geography, with specialisms in palaeoecology. Experience of pollen and other micro- and macro fossil identification and palaeo field work, especially sediment coring, is essential.
