Senior Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory and Field Senior Technician to join our team at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of sediment and peat core samples for pollen and non-pollen microfossils, as well as macrofossils, and will play a key role in the day-to-day operation, management, and maintenance of the Conservation Palaeoecology Lab.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of sediment and peat core samples for pollen and non-pollen microfossils, as well as macrofossils.
- Prepare samples for radiocarbon dating and geochemistry analysis.
- Conduct microscopy work as needed.
- Contribute to the production and interpretation of data for academic-led research in the field of palaeoecology.
- Coordinate laboratory and equipment bookings to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Maintain laboratory and field equipment, including stocking consumable items and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography or a related subject, such as Earth Science or Biology.
- Experience in pollen and other micro- and macrofossil identification and palaeo field work, especially sediment coring.
- Strong technical research skills relevant to physical geography, with specialisms in palaeoecology.
The role may require occasional out-of-hours commitments and overnight stays for fieldwork, which will be compensated either by time off in lieu or paid overtime.
