Lead Cost Consultant - Manchester
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Cost Consultant to join our UK North Build division, contributing to a significant construction initiative in the region.
As a Lead Cost Consultant, you will play a vital role within the commercial team, managing various aspects of financial oversight including Client Relations, Payment Management, Internal Financial Reporting, Procurement, and fostering the development of team members.
Core Responsibilities:
- Align the financial strategy with project requirements, adapting as necessary throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with and provide commercial insights to team members and the construction process.
- Take charge of, manage, and represent the organization in all commercial and contractual matters, which include but are not limited to: Preparing bids, selecting suitable subcontractors, overseeing financial management to Final Account completion, presenting forecasts, targets, and cost reconciliations, preparing and agreeing on valuations, generating certificates and processing payments, managing variations as work progresses, regularly updating projected Final Accounts, timely preparation and submission of Final Accounts, engaging in value engineering and design enhancements, monitoring preliminary controls, maintaining site records and documentation, managing insurance and warranties, identifying and managing risks and opportunities, overseeing junior commercial staff, supporting tender processes, managing cash flow, and taking responsibility for contracts, particularly those exceeding €/£15m.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Ability to manage personnel and situations with sensitivity while achieving commercial benefits.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and creativity.
- Exhibit ownership and awareness of commercial dynamics.
- Strong time management, organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation capabilities.
- Experience in mentoring and managing team members.
- Ability to balance assertiveness with pragmatism, manage complex large-scale projects, conduct negotiations, provide detailed contract condition advice, resolve contractual disputes, lead subcontract procurement, and supervise the preparation of main contract documents.
Essential Qualifications/Training:
- Understanding of commercial principles, Behavioral Based Safety (BBS), adjudication and dispute resolution, leadership and delegation skills, management fundamentals, legal principles overview, continuous professional development regarding legislation and industry trends, cost value reconciliation appreciation, and effective presentation and communication skills.
