Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Senior Measurement Officer to join our dedicated team within Trading Standards at Lancashire County Council.

Role Summary: As a qualified Metrology expert, you will possess the technical skills and experience necessary to fulfill our statutory duties. Our specialized Metrology Team collaborates with various departments, including food standards, to provide essential statutory services to a diverse range of businesses and external stakeholders. Your role will involve advising, guiding, and promoting legal compliance, with enforcement actions when necessary, to safeguard both businesses and consumers in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advisory Role: We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Metrology professional to offer expert advice to local businesses, ensuring compliance with the Weights and Measures Act 1985. Your technical expertise will be vital in making informed decisions that influence businesses to adhere to their legal obligations, thereby minimizing the need for enforcement actions.
  2. Analytical Skills: As a detail-oriented thinker, you will be responsible for recording and analyzing metrics, planning timelines, and gathering necessary data. Your attention to detail will be crucial in producing reports that highlight trends and inform future projects. You will assess a variety of equipment, including petrol pumps and weighbridges, while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  3. Communication and Teamwork: You will engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including business owners, customers, and senior management. Your ability to navigate challenging conversations and collaborate with team members will be essential in achieving optimal outcomes for businesses and their customers.
