About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Octopus Energy Trading team as a Flex Trading Python Developer. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing innovative solutions for trading and dispatching flexible assets like batteries and electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop High-Performance Code: You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-performance, reusable, and reliable code to ensure the best possible performance, reliability, and quality of the Octopus Energy Trading platform.
  • Contribute to Full-Stack Development: You will contribute to development across the entire stack from the front end down to the infrastructure that the platform runs on, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Develop Tradeable Insights: You will take energy industry data and turn it into tradeable insights, helping us ensure that everything from electric vehicles to grid-scale batteries are charged at the greenest times for the best price.
  • Contribute to Software Engineering Culture: You will contribute to the software engineering culture here at Octopus Energy Trading, shaping the future of our platform and driving innovation.
Requirements
  • Energy Systems Knowledge: You will have a keen interest in energy systems and the energy transition, with a solid understanding of the industry and its challenges.
  • Python Experience: You will have circa 1-3 years of experience in a similar position, with production Python experience and a strong understanding of data pipelines.
  • Desirable Skills: You will have experience with using 3rd party APIs, websockets/queues, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), AWS or similar cloud providers, SQL, Javascript, web development (especially FastAPI), developing visualisations (especially Plotly), forecasting, and/or machine learning.
