Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Tooling Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be accountable for tooling and fixture maintenance, rework, refurbishment, new tooling and fixture design, fabrication, analysis, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
- Develop technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers, and suppliers.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing process development and integration for production.
- Utilize root cause analysis, preventative, and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
- Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
- Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
- Develop and maintain tools standard work and procedures.
- Implement tooling from original concept through to production, designing for high process capability using the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
- Manage tool fabrication quotes, tooling input for new product quotes, tooling configuration changes involving cost estimation, schedule coordination, and implementation.
- Develop full blueprints sets according to ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T, ensuring feasibility of parts or tooling designs.
- Resolve or mitigate tooling issues (Technical, Timing, or Cost).
- Deliver technical trainings for Production Personnel on tool usage instructions.
- Develop NC Programming solutions for high process capability using the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Aviation/Aeronautics), Engineering (Metal Fabrication/Tool & Die/Industrial Engineering).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tools/fixtures design and fabrication or precision engineering industry.
- Working knowledge of quality system models such as ANSI, GD&T, and ISO.
- Competent in design software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, NX Unigraphic, or Inventor).
- Experience in tools/fixtures fabrication process (CADCAM, CNC Programming, or Molding).
- Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.
- Participates in activities within a global technical community and understanding of the interface with broader business functions.
- Develops working relationships through team work, influencing, leadership, coaching, and personal drive to succeed.
- For internal candidates, completion of the ME Academy and training to become a Zero Defect Practitioner and 6σ Green Belt is required. External candidates must demonstrate equivalent capability in problem-solving and process control.
