About Us

West Sussex County Council is a dynamic organization that provides essential services to over 850,000 residents daily. Our Early Help Service is dedicated to supporting children, families, and young people to achieve their full potential. We recognize that the early years lay the foundation for mental health, emotional control, and educational success, and that family life and parenting play a crucial role in shaping positive outcomes for children as they grow and develop.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Family Support Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Early Help Service, you will work closely with families to identify their needs and develop personalized plans to support their wellbeing and resilience. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of families and children, and contribute to the development of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with families to assess their needs and develop personalized plans to support their wellbeing and resilience.
  • Provide direct support to parents and carers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to support their children's development.
  • Facilitate group work with families, covering a range of topics and based on identified needs within a locality hub area.
  • Coordinate Early Help Plans, assessing each family member and agreeing outcomes that families and professionals will work towards.
  • Use a strengths-based approach to support and sustain positive change that improves outcomes for children and young people.
Requirements
  • NVQ level 3 in childcare, play work, family support, or a related area, and/or relevant experience working with parents, carers, and children.
  • Good knowledge of child development and the importance of parenting skills and community development.
  • Experience of working with families in a community setting, including experience of working within the early years, family support, family centre, or child health sector.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information verbally and in writing that is clear, concise, and accurate.
  • Ability to work within recognized procedures, organize own workload, and use initiative to respond to unanticipated problems.
What We Offer

As an employer, we recognize that our employees are central to everything we do. We aim to create a supportive and dynamic working environment where employees can achieve their full potential, achieve a healthy work-life balance, and are rewarded for the work they do.
