GE Renewable Energy is seeking a Secondary Design Manager to work in our Grid Solutions business from our Stafford office.

Grid Solutions offers advanced products and services ranging from power electronics, high voltage equipment, automation & protection, software solutions to projects & services.

The successful candidate will lead a geographically diverse team of designers, subcontractors, engineers, and project teams working on protection and control schematics and substation equipment.

The Role

The Secondary Design Manager will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the technical integrity of design works, meeting customer expectations, and promoting ease of installation, operation, and maintenance of the system.
  • Planning and managing design activities, coordinating delivery of engineering documentation, and overseeing the execution progress.
  • Establishing and managing the list of documents to produce for the design activity.
  • Evaluating engineering workload and deliverables dates, committing to budget and time delivery.
  • Ensuring on-time delivery of design, including partner documents, to stakeholders with suitable quality.
  • Leading and coordinating the design team.
  • Managing and monitoring detailed execution progress and short-term plan.
  • Managing design time spent in man-hours on relevant activities.
  • Following and implementing project strategy.
  • Highlighting scope or design changes and informing project stakeholders.
Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Good level of years engineering experience in the related activity/discipline, preferably in project & EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience of project technical management processes, preferably in a multi-disciplinary team's context with multiple interfaces.
  • Several experiences in managing externally subcontracted design work packages of various sizes.
