Technical Service Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Service Engineer (SE) is entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities that include:
Hands-on maintenance and repair of water treatment systems.
Conducting scheduled service visits as well as ad-hoc service calls outside of contractual obligations.
Responding to emergency service requests, which may occur outside standard working hours.
Repairing client equipment as needed.
Installing new systems when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform installation, commissioning, servicing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair or replacement of components and equipment for all assigned tasks and specialized projects.
Execute routine maintenance on equipment and systems included in periodic service contracts efficiently and cost-effectively. Utilize problem-solving skills to address technical and application issues on-site with minimal disruption to clients.
Enhance skills and knowledge beyond basic qualifications to service and repair equipment as directed by the Service Manager, ensuring appropriate training is received as necessary.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the equipment manufactured, supplied, and supported by the company, including select third-party equipment, and gain insight into their applications.
Maintain a solid grasp of administrative procedures relevant to the role, utilize company-provided tools and systems, and adhere to company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Generate precise and informative service reports upon completion of each task, detailing the work performed and any recommendations for further action.
Ensure all assignments are completed promptly and in alignment with company policies and procedures.
Request spare parts and replacements from the office/stores and manage inventory in accordance with company protocols.
Acquire proficiency in the use of specialized tools and testing equipment pertinent to the role, ensuring all company equipment assigned is kept secure and in optimal working condition.
Actively promote the company's products and services, providing sales leads to the office. Uphold and project a high-quality company image at all times, demonstrating the integrity required when working on client premises.
When appropriate and approved by the Service Manager, assist in the formal on-site training of trainees. Provide technical expertise to resolve site-related issues as necessary.
Attend training sessions as directed by the Service Manager.
Be available for work outside of standard hours as required, including weekends, and participate in the company's emergency on-call system.
Be prepared to undertake short-term assignments throughout the UK with reasonable notice.
Contribute to achieving company strategies, commitments, and objectives, as well as the Service Team's KPIs and personal goals assigned.
Take responsibility for personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by actions or omissions. Adhere strictly to Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, Security, and Site policies, rules, and instructions issued by the company and its clients.
Report all accidents, incidents, near misses, or malpractice to management and assist in investigations and corrective actions.
Be accountable for the assigned company vehicle, ensuring it is roadworthy and maintained in accordance with statutory regulations and company requirements.
- The role may also require undertaking additional duties within the scope and purpose of this position as reasonably requested by your line manager in line with business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Essential:
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification – Level 3 or higher.
Experience in plant maintenance and fault finding.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
General computer literacy.
Preferred:
Electro-mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent.
ONC or HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar.
18th Edition Qualified.
Experience with water purification systems and equipment.
Previous relevant experience as a mobile service engineer.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a full valid UK driving license.
Willingness to travel within the region with occasional overnight stays as necessary.
Once fully trained and inducted, the postholder will participate in an on-call rota, which may include occasional out-of-hours, weekend work, and emergency call-outs.
