This role is crucial to the success of the organization’s capital program, encompassing short-, medium-, and long-term objectives. The individual in this position will be expected to engage with all levels of the organization and establish credibility with senior management and divisional teams.
Key Responsibilities
The individual will oversee the capital accounting operations, which includes: the prompt and precise preparation of capital accounts; management of capital expenditures, governance, and reporting; prioritization, planning, and forecasting of capital projects; and the upkeep of the organization’s fixed asset systems.
The incumbent will serve as the capital finance expert for the organization and must possess excellent communication skills to cultivate effective working relationships with both internal and external colleagues. The Senior Capital Finance Advisor will report to the Head of Financial Services and is professionally accountable for ensuring that all responsibilities are executed in compliance with statutory regulations, financial directives, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and the organization’s internal control and governance requirements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- In-depth knowledge of current financial practices and issues
- Proven expertise in technical accounting matters
- Comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards
- Familiarity with Lease Finance

- Experience with PFI accounting
- Background in developing and maintaining Long Term Financial Models
- Extensive knowledge of NHS Finance Policies and Guidance
- Up-to-date awareness of developments within the NHS
Qualifications

- CCAB or CIMA Qualified Accountant with proof of current membership
- Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD)

- Degree-level education or equivalent experience

- Senior-level experience in financial accounts, including final accounts, capital, and asset management
- Proven problem-solving abilities and capacity to meet tight deadlines in a demanding environment
- Proficiency in Finance/General Ledger systems, including report design and optimization
- Ability to interpret and implement new policies and guidelines

- Knowledge of the Five Case Business case model
- Detailed understanding of the Foundation Trust finance regime and accounting requirements
- Financial accounts experience within an Acute NHS Trust
