JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Chief Design Officer, this position is pivotal in enhancing the design team's contributions from initial research and insights to the final stages of production. You will engage in a variety of projects within a dynamic and expanding product range, focusing on accessories for mobile devices, laptops, tablets, and protective solutions.

As a CMF Designer, your role will encompass the journey of bringing innovative products to market. You will collaborate daily with Product Design, Category Managers, and Marketing teams, as well as Engineering and Quality Control departments. Your ability to observe and articulate evidence-based foundations for creative direction and concepts, while considering the broader technical, functional, cost, and manufacturing aspects of your design approach, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of leading CMF designs for our product range from concept through various stages of development to production.
  • Assist in curating and maintaining a comprehensive internal library of inspirational, advanced materials, finishes, and CMF design references.
  • Engage in the ideation and development of colors, materials, and finishes to bring CMF design narratives to life.
  • Play an active role in advancing the CMF function within Tech21.
  • Explore new material resources to foster innovation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, including Purchasing, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and Project Teams to ensure project success.
  • Guide project teams and clients through the design process, from identifying opportunities to crafting comprehensive solutions.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions with internal teams, clients, and diverse experts.
  • Support new business initiatives at Tech21 and contribute to proposal strategies in collaboration with business development.
  • Work closely with the broader Product Design and Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with partner manufacturers on collaborative design projects, ensuring alignment with Tech21's brand values while expanding the product portfolio.
  • Assist in project planning and provide technical support for project execution and timelines.
  • Address and resolve complex challenges with manufacturing departments, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Share expertise in strategic thinking, design research, and methodologies, facilitating collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Candidate Profile:

  • A degree in Textile Design, Color and Material Design, Product or Industrial Design, or a related field (preferred).
  • Professional experience in CMF design.
  • Highly motivated and collaborative, eager to learn and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Self-driven with the ability to take initiative and work independently when necessary.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both verbal and visual.
  • Strong color vision and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Proficient in software tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, KeyShot, and Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Fundamental understanding of both soft and hard material developments.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate research findings, apply brand values, and articulate product features within a fast-paced product development context.
  • In-depth knowledge of current market trends and the capability to adapt and develop products accordingly.
  • Ability to articulate strategic intent and create supporting presentation materials.
  • Understanding of the context of strategic design work in relation to business strategies and current market dynamics.
