Transport Operations Manager

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to oversee the transportation plans and supervise the transport team at our Bolton Depot. This role will be responsible for managing driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery and collection times, as well as ensuring service levels are met and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively manage and plan driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery and collection times and client service level agreements.
- Liaise with the shunting operation to cover pre-loading and unloading operations.
- Ensure service levels are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments.
- Optimize resources and adhere to Working Time Directive and drivers' hours legislation.
- Use the driver rota to plan runs according to shift patterns and available hours, taking into account holidays and sickness.
- Control equipment through sign-in and sign-out procedures.
- Ensure legal compliance regarding any defects, services, MOTs, etc.
- Investigate all incidents of fleet damage, RTIs, HPNMs, and escalate to line managers for further support.
- Carry out disciplinary hearings, return-to-work meetings, substance misuse procedures, etc.
- Ensure any risk assessments at the depot are organized and carried out accordingly.
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, and near misses are logged and reported in line with company procedures.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with drivers, communicating accurate start times, load information, directions, additional shifts, etc.
- Ensure adherence to all statutory and legal requirements, adhering to all health and safety and safe systems of work.
- Pre-brief and debrief drivers, ensuring company standards are maintained and adhered to.
Requirements
- Significant knowledge and experience of tachograph and driving rules and regulations.
- CPC National desirable but not essential.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Planning and organizing skills, high level of numeracy.
- Negotiating skills, ability to influence and steer.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
- Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers' hours.
- Significant transport experience in FMCG environment.
