About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Physicist or Engineer to join our Engineering Design group at NPL. Our team is responsible for designing and preparing manufacturing systems and instruments for internal and external use. As a key member of our team, you will be involved in the design, development, and testing of new metrology systems and their supporting software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Simulation: Utilize ray-tracing and finite element analysis software to simulate and design physical systems, including optical systems, heat transfer, and fluid flow design.
  • Programming and Development: Program equipment using Labview and Python, and develop and maintain software in existing systems.
  • Product Safety and Governance: Maintain and design products and systems safely, following best practices and governance processes, and prepare for review meetings.
  • Collaboration and Design Discussions: Participate in cross-discipline design discussions with electronic and mechanical hardware design teams.
  • Documentation and Review: Prepare design documentation for product life-cycle management and peer-review code and documentation produced by other NPL engineers.
