Job Summary:

Carrington West is seeking a highly skilled Senior Structures Consultant to join our team in Bedfordshire. As a Senior Bridges Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expert consultancy services to internal and external clients, including deputising for team leaders in their absence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of Annual Structures Inspection Programme: Oversee the annual inspection of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls, to ensure compliance with relevant technical standards and health and safety legislation.
  • Project Scoping and Delivery: Scope potential schemes, produce briefs, designs, specifications, and contract documents, and procure and supervise works on structures.
  • Design and Analysis: Conduct structural analysis and assessment of different forms of structure, primarily through manual calculation, to ensure designs comply with current relevant technical standards and health and safety legislation.
  • Inspection and Negotiation: Inspect and negotiate with applicants and developers to ensure their structures are built to suitable standards, in accordance with agreements under Section 38 and 278 of the Highways Act.
  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing and programming projects to ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Effective communication in drawn and written form, including selective upward reporting of key issues, and the ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of computer software, particularly Microsoft Office, and management of abnormal loads routing through Bedford Borough.
  • Travel Requirements: Must hold a full valid driving license for the UK or be able to travel to sites around the Borough in an efficient manner.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in Highways structures is essential for this role.
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in structural analysis and design.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software, particularly Microsoft Office.
