About the Role

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its team. As a key member of the Bank's legal department, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support on a wide range of matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support on borrowing operations, derivatives, and capital market transactions, as well as other Treasury matters.
  • Work closely with other departments to identify, address, and manage legal risks and issues.
  • Monitor and manage a portfolio of complex legal matters, including advising on the interpretation of agreements and contracts.
  • Manage the engagement and work of external law firms, ensuring cost-effective utilization of legal services.
  • Contribute to the Bank's knowledge management activities, including the preparation and dissemination of memoranda and policy briefs.
  • Participate in inter-departmental working groups and task forces to develop Bank policies and deliver on strategic initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor the work of junior lawyers and interns.

Requirements

  • A law degree from a leading university and a post-graduate law degree or relevant professional experience.
  • Admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • At least five years of experience in international law, preferably in a top commercial or investment bank, or international organization.
  • Excellent command of the English language, including drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
