About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Planner to join our Development Management team at the London Borough of Lambeth. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the planning process, managing a team of planners, and ensuring that development applications are processed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning process for development applications, ensuring that they are processed in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manage a team of planners, providing guidance and support to ensure that they are able to perform their duties effectively.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with developers, investors, and other stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met and that development applications are processed efficiently.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Planning Applications Committee, ensuring that they are of a high standard and meet the needs of the committee.
  • Deputise for the Area Team Manager as required.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • RTPI-recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience of development management work, including dealing with major and complex applications.
  • Experience of providing advice to Councillors, senior officers, developers, and the public on all aspects of planning applications and related matters.
  • Experience of providing supervision and guidance to more junior staff to ensure that applications are reported in line with target dates and in accordance with agreed procedures.
