The Role

The Service Delivery Underwriting teams are located regionally throughout the UK in our regional underwriting hubs. Part of Hiscox UK's central operations function and are responsible for the volume underwriting of our referrals across new and existing business.

The Service Delivery underwriters manage ~95% of policies written and ~45% of gross written premium in our open market UK retail division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new/existing business across our commercial (PSC) products in line with our high standards
  • Work towards set targets each month including profitability, GWP, conversion, retention, cross-sell, referral rate reduction, quotes per day, turnaround times, workflow management, phone service and prospecting
  • Develop your sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions
  • Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties and identify points of contact within brokers
  • Challenge non-standard underwriting decisions leveraging the expertise of product specialists and senior members of the team
  • Show courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and how we can do things differently to improve the customer experience and drive profitable growth

Requirements

  • Experience of working in an insurer, within an underwriting environment and the desire to want to build a career in underwriting
  • A strong team player capable of taking ownership and driving results
  • An analytical mind, proactive in thought process and the ability to back up the decisions you make
  • A natural flair for building relationships enabling you to develop close rapport with brokers, clients and colleagues
  • Ability to be an ambassador of Hiscox and demonstrate 'going the extra mile' dedication and commitment in a fast growing and demanding area of the business
  • Self-motivated with a strong determination to learn, achieve results and succeed
  • Willingness to begin ACII qualification
