About the Role

Henderson Brown Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team and support the successful rollout of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) within our client's organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document Reviews: Conduct thorough reviews of drawings, schematics, and structural documents to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Project Meetings: Attend and participate in project meetings, including LEF, ILEF, and design briefings, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Internal Communication: Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including directors, safety validation panels, and stakeholders, to ensure seamless communication and project progress.
  • Third-Party Maintainer Engagement: Engage with third-party maintainers to address engineering matters and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Programme Support: Provide administrative support for programme surveys, design house engagement, and other programme-related activities.
  • Locomotive Surveys: Organize and conduct locomotive surveys across the UK to support the First-in-Class (FiC) fitment plan.
  • Design Scrutiny: Assist in the design scrutiny of First-in-Class (FiC) designs, including detailed analysis of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic diagrams, testing procedures, and safety compliance.
  • ETCS Technical Documentation: Liaise with internal engineering and production departments to review ETCS technical documentation and ensure compliance with contractual timeframes.
  • Project Stakeholder Management: Liaise with project stakeholders, including other freight companies, Network Rail, and Siemens, to progress the ERTMS project.
  • Future Development and Training: Assist with future development and training requirements to support maintenance suppliers and provide a skilled and competent workforce in ETCS.
  • Deputy to the Lead Engineer: Act as a deputy to the lead engineer at industry and programme meetings, ensuring business-as-usual operations are not adversely affected by the introduction of ETCS.
Requirements
  • Detailed Knowledge: Possess detailed knowledge of diesel and electric locomotive systems and maintenance.
  • Engineering Processes: Have a broad but detailed understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, as well as experience working to test specifications.
  • Schematic Interpretation: Be able to interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Organizational Skills: Possess highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated skills.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Demonstrate a collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Possess critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Action-Oriented: Be action-oriented and results-focused.
  • Flexibility: Demonstrate a flexible and resourceful approach.
  • Driving License: Hold a full (UK) driving license.
  • Microsoft Office: Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Electrically Biased: Have electrically biased experience in various freight traction types.
  • Electrical Engineering Qualification: Possess an electrical engineering qualification and/or sufficient work experience (7+ years).
