Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Manager to join our Nuclear Material Control team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing a team of Nuclear Material Control Officers and ensuring the accurate control of nuclear material, sources, and non-fissile material.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of nuclear material accountancy and safeguards, as well as excellent stakeholder management and team leadership skills. You will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in matters relating to nuclear material accountancy and safeguards, and for interfacing with ONR Safeguards Inspectors to support regulatory inspections.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of Nuclear Material Control Officers to operate NNL's accountancy systems in support of NNL project delivery.
  • Act as subject matter expert in matters relating to Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards.
  • Interface with ONR Safeguards Inspectors to support regulatory inspections.
  • Authorise and control all receipts and dispatches of nuclear material to and from the Windscale Laboratory.
  • Produce regulatory reports to meet compliance against UK Safeguards Regulation.
  • Authorise and control movement of nuclear material within the Windscale & Central Laboratory.
  • Investigate and prepare technical reports with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Provide information and support to stakeholders and regulators on Nuclear Material Accountancy Control and Safeguards technical issues.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of nuclear material accountancy and safeguards.
  • Proven stakeholder management experience.
  • Proven team leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle manual and computer data accurately with attention to detail.
  • Numerate with attention to detail and the ability to problem solve, innovate and provide practical solutions.
  • High levels of drive, energy, resilience and integrity.
  • Logical and methodical approach to data processing and analysis.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
