Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Manager to join our team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our Nuclear Material Control Section, you will be responsible for managing a team of Nuclear Material Control Officers and ensuring the accurate operation of our accountancy systems in support of project delivery at the Windscale & Central Laboratory.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage a team responsible for controlling information related to nuclear material, sources, and non-fissile material, as well as the material accountancy system.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards, liaising with project teams, site functions, and statutory regulators as necessary.
  • Interface with ONR Safeguards Inspectors to support regulatory inspections and resolve any subsequent issues.
  • Authorise and control all receipts and dispatches of nuclear material to and from the Windscale Laboratory.
  • Produce regulatory reports to meet compliance with UK Safeguards Regulation.
  • Authorise and control the movement of nuclear material within the Windscale & Central Laboratory.
  • File all records associated with transactions to ensure full traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate and prepare technical reports with conclusions and recommendations as necessary.
  • Provide information and support to stakeholders and regulators on Nuclear Material Accountancy Control and Safeguards technical issues.
  • Conduct stock takes of nuclear material and undertake monthly inspections of criticality areas to ensure all materials are present and correct.
Essential Criteria
  • Understanding of key principles of Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards and its impact on NNL.
  • Proven stakeholder management experience, including dealing with regulators.
  • Proven record of managing or supervising high-performing teams.
  • Ability to handle manual and computer data accurately with attention to detail.
  • Numerate with attention to detail and the ability to problem-solve, innovate, and provide practical solutions.
  • High levels of drive, energy, resilience, and integrity.
  • Logical and methodical approach to data processing and analysis.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
