Main Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Director to join our Transport/Highways team in South West England. The successful candidate will support the Technical Director in managing project delivery and staff development, including early careers colleagues.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in transport planning and highway design, including S38 / S278 design, and excellent connections with associated consultants, particularly town planners and architects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Manage projects across a range of transport planning and / or highway design areas, including site feasibility, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and site access design.
  2. Be responsible for teams delivering high-quality technical work and developing staff skills through project delivery.
  3. Manage and generate new opportunities.
  4. Manage and develop the team reporting to them.
  5. Prepare technical reports, strategies, and transport solutions.
  6. Implement Traffic and Transport methodologies with the assistance of the supporting technical team.
  7. Liaise with clients and local / national authorities.
  8. Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives.
  9. Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation in working practices.
What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are required?

Essential:

  • Degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related subject.
  • A minimum of 10 years of Transport Planning experience.
  • Demonstrable track record in winning and delivering projects.
  • A proven ability to build client relationships.
  • Experience in highway / junction design at least at the concept and preliminary design level.
  • Experience of working with public and private sector clients.
  • Experience in delivering a range of projects across different land uses and scales.
  • Develop and manage a team of skilled individuals.
  • Efficient communication skills, excellent level of written and spoken English.

Preferred:

  • MSc in Transport Planning/Engineering.
  • Chartered with a relevant professional institution.
  • Project Management in a range of projects at both low and higher values.
  • Able user of junction modelling packages.
  • Knowledge of current transport and highway policy.
  • Existing work winner.
