Deputy Casualty Underwriting Officer

About the Role
The Travelers Companies, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Casualty Underwriting Officer to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our Business Insurance Retail, SME, and Specialty teams as we strive to monitor and grow our Casualty and Third Party portfolios.
You will collaborate closely with underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to manage the overall underwriting strategy, meticulously track portfolio performance, and contribute significantly to achieving ambitious growth and profitability objectives.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, providing flexibility for employees to work both in the office and remotely.
Responsibilities:- Provide essential support in developing and executing strategic underwriting direction for our Casualty business lines.
- Actively participate in setting pricing strategies and ensuring rate adequacy across various product offerings.
- Mentor and coach underwriting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
- Contribute to the establishment and ongoing review of underwriting standards and guidelines, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Stay abreast of evolving regulatory and legislative changes that may impact our underwriting operations.
- Oversee the technical accuracy and quality of all underwriting materials used by the team.
- Proven experience in commercial underwriting, with a strong understanding of Casualty insurance principles and practices.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to effectively guide and motivate a team of underwriters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and concise interaction with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) for efficient data analysis, document preparation, and collaboration.
- A deep understanding of Casualty underwriting principles and practices, coupled with a strong analytical mindset.
