Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Special Needs Support Assistant to join our team. As a Special Needs Support Assistant, you will work closely with our students, teachers, and support staff to provide individualized support and accommodations to ensure students with special needs have equal access to education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with special needs, including those with autism, Down's syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social-emotional needs.
  • Assist teachers in implementing effective communication techniques and strategies to support students with special needs.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors, to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices and strategies for supporting students with special needs.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and support staff.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities, with a focus on providing high-quality support services.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and strategies for supporting students with complex needs.
  • Desirable: Psychology degree or specialist SEN training.
