This essential position involves navigating the intricate landscape of international research compliance, assisting the Director of Research in formulating policies that adhere to UK Export Control and security regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage security compliance across global research partnerships, ensuring that the university's international research projects uphold the highest standards of legality and integrity.
  • Assist academic departments with due diligence, export licensing, and NSI notifications, while also creating thorough training programs to mitigate risks associated with international research activities.
  • Handle responsibilities related to education and technology commercialization, addressing issues of international collaboration as they emerge.
  • Work closely with Professional Service teams, including the Global Engagement Office, Academic Registry, and Business Development, to maintain research integrity.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Physical Engineering or Law.
  • Demonstrated experience in research security and export control compliance within higher education institutions or the defense sector.
  • Understanding of the broader challenges and risks linked to international research, with experience in developing actionable guidance to evaluate and mitigate these risks.
  • Experience in preparing and submitting export control license applications and ensuring compliance with license conditions, along with practical knowledge of the SPIRE system.
  • Familiarity with the NSI Act and the processes for both mandatory and voluntary notifications.
