About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist Investigator to join our team at GlaxoSmithKline. As a Data Scientist Investigator, you will play a key role in driving business growth and innovation by leveraging data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Data-Driven Insights: Design and develop advanced data analytics solutions to extract valuable insights from large datasets, driving business growth and informing strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with research scientists, stakeholders, and other data scientists to understand data needs and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Develop and Implement Data Solutions: Design, build, and deploy scalable data solutions using cloud-based infrastructure, leveraging expertise in data engineering, machine learning, and data visualization.
  • Manage Projects and Prioritize Work: Manage projects using basic project management principles and communicate effectively with stakeholders to prioritize work and meet business objectives.
  • Contribute to Data & Predictive Sciences Goals: Contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the Data & Predictive Sciences team, implementing relevant components of those objectives.
Requirements
  • PhD in Bioinformatics or Relevant Scientific Domain: Hold a PhD in bioinformatics or a relevant scientific domain, or have extensive years of professional experience with a Master's degree.
  • Programming Language Proficiency: Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Python, R, Java, and toolchains for documentation, testing, and operations.
  • Image Analysis Experience: Experience in using image analysis tools like ImageJ, CellProfiler, 10X Space Ranger, and Loupe Browser.
  • Scientific Knowledge and Acumen: Strong scientific knowledge and acumen to understand GSK's biological research data.
  • Experience in Bioinformatics Pipelines: Experience building bioinformatics pipelines and databases with large-scale biological data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Image Processing and Analysis Techniques: Strong experience with image processing and analysis techniques, particularly for analyzing histological images or spatial data.
  • Statistical Methods and Machine Learning: Strong knowledge and experience with statistical methods and machine learning techniques applied to high-dimensional data.
  • Bioinformatics Tools and Packages: Experience with bioinformatics tools and packages, such as Seurat, Scanpy, SpatialIDE, and Giotto.
  • Cloud-Based Infrastructure: Experience with architecting and implementing computational solutions that can be scalable on cloud-based infrastructures, including Azure and Google Cloud ecosystem.
