Location: Stockport

Salary: £11.95 per hour (dependent on experience)

Hours: Rotational shifts, 07:30 – 21:30

Main Purpose of the Role:
  • To provide essential support to vulnerable and challenging children and young individuals within a residential setting, both practically and emotionally.
  • To assist in guiding them towards their personalized developmental plans.
  • To oversee the daily care and well-being of the young residents, along with other supportive duties.

Main Responsibilities:


Childcare Excellence:
  • Encourage the healthy development of children/young individuals through engaging activities and a balanced lifestyle.
  • Monitor and safeguard children/young individuals from any signs of distress or maltreatment.
  • Be attentive to the unique needs of each child, considering factors such as race, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, language, and faith.
  • Engage with children/young individuals, observe their behavior, and maintain comprehensive records.
  • Contribute to care planning and participate in evaluations and discussions.
  • Provide comfort and support to children/young individuals experiencing stress, while promoting appropriate behavior and establishing boundaries when necessary.
  • Attend to the physical needs of children/young individuals, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, shopping, etc.

Key Worker Duties:

  • Take special responsibility for specific children/young individuals.
  • Ensure their practical needs (nutrition, healthcare, clothing, personal belongings, etc.) are adequately met.
  • Address emotional needs by spending dedicated time, discussing challenges, and fostering independence.
  • Maintain precise records and represent them in meetings.
  • Contribute to ongoing assessments and plans for these children/young individuals.

Team Collaboration:

  • Act as a positive and cooperative member of the staff team, participating in meetings, contributing to reports, and sharing/receiving information.
  • Work flexibly according to the unit's staffing requirements and keep colleagues informed of relevant developments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve unit objectives and plans, working together on shared tasks, such as family visits and organizing recreational activities.

Professional Growth:

  • Stay informed about best practices and be open to participating in relevant training and development programs.
  • Engage in regular formal supervision sessions with appropriate management.
  • Conduct regular self-assessments of performance and training needs.
  • Report any malpractices or concerns to the appropriate authority.
