Position: Technical Architect
Location: Remote (UK)
Eligibility: Candidates must be British Citizens or have resided in the UK for over 5 years

Essential Skills / Technical Proficiencies:

  • Expertise in API and Event-Driven architecture design patterns, including pub-sub and data streaming methodologies.
  • Experience in designing event-based architectures across various data centers and public cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with API Gateway and micro-gateway patterns, encompassing features such as traffic management, security, logging, monitoring, and authentication, for instance, Kong API Gateway.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficient in Microservices and API-Led architecture, along with integration design tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of public cloud technologies, cloud hosting, containerization, and networking design principles.
  • Acquainted with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions and relational database systems.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Prior experience in the Public Sector is advantageous, particularly with GDS (Government Digital Service) projects.
  • Lead and support the technical design of a product or a segment of a shared platform to fulfill user requirements and business goals.
  • Ensure high-quality technical design and compliance with enterprise architecture standards and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with digital professionals in agile teams to create Value for Money (VFM) solution designs that meet user needs.
  • Engage with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Lead Solution Architects, and engineering teams to implement solutions based on approved architectural designs.
  • Accountable for aligning product architecture with engineering practices to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Identify, document, share, and refine architectural patterns to maintain consistent and coherent design, contributing to Enterprise Architecture.
  • Implement architectural patterns and develop reference architectures as practical examples of successful design.
  • Provide solution alternatives and recommendations during project discovery and inception phases to facilitate informed decision-making on optimal design.
  • Make technology selections for products in accordance with the enterprise architecture framework, contributing to the revision of technology policies as necessary.
  • Support the development of an inclusive digital culture within the organization.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Strong communication skills, capable of bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deep technical knowledge relevant to the role and its context within the broader technical landscape, including an understanding of digital technology limitations.
  • Proficient in systems design, capable of creating systems with moderate levels of risk, impact, and complexity, while ensuring adherence to design standards, methods, and tools.
  • Able to engage with and challenge senior stakeholders, prioritize and mitigate constraints, and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Skilled in translating business challenges into technical designs, addressing issues across multiple business domains and identifying common solutions.
  • Experienced in collaborative prototyping, gathering feedback, and refining prototypes, along with knowledge of various prototyping methods and hosting protocols.

This position requires a seasoned Technical Architect with a robust understanding of architectural principles, technical expertise, and the capability to convert business requirements into effective technical solutions.
