Important: All applicants must have the full, existing right to work in the UK.

About us:

THE PIG Hotels pride themselves on excellence in hospitality. With a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to our values, we operate multi-award-winning establishments across various regions. Our ethos revolves around being restaurants with rooms, where our Kitchen Gardens play a pivotal role. We emphasize the use of local and seasonal produce, ensuring that our menus reflect the freshest ingredients available. Our kitchen gardeners collaborate closely with our chefs to curate dishes that celebrate British garden cuisine. We are dedicated to sourcing everything we cannot produce ourselves from local suppliers, forming the basis of our 25-mile menu.

For our honey production, we maintain a dedicated team of beekeepers who oversee between 80 and 120 honey production colonies, operating from our central office.

The role:

We are seeking to expand our team with the role of Head Beekeeper. Reporting to our Group Apiary Manager, you will oversee multiple honey production colonies. Your primary focus will be on nurturing and managing our honeybee populations, with the main goal of maximizing honey yield while ensuring the health and vitality of the bees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Colony upkeep – at our central office and occasionally at various locations.
  • Nucleus production.
  • Movement of colonies to crop sites.
  • Honey extraction and bottling – every 3-4 weeks during the bee season.
  • Frame construction.
  • Transportation of hives between our sites.
  • Conducting routine hive inspections and maintaining records.
  • Apiary upkeep.
  • Occasional collection and deliveries.
  • Candle production during the winter months.

What we are looking for:

This position is ideal for an individual who appreciates variety in their daily tasks. A genuine enthusiasm for food and honey is essential, along with a keen attention to detail and a strong desire to learn and develop new skills. A proactive attitude and a friendly demeanor are important, as is the ability to work independently when necessary. Experience in beekeeping, bee health, and honey production is crucial. A solid understanding of plant and animal biology, along with the physical capability to handle heavy equipment, is required. Skills in carpentry and prior experience in frame construction are advantageous.

Applicants must hold a full clean driving licence.

What we can offer you:

THE PIGs provide an inspiring and enjoyable work environment. In recognition of your dedication, you can expect:

  • Various retail discounts through our Perkbox Scheme.
  • Reduced room rates and complimentary staff stays across our establishments.
  • Discounts on food, beverages, and spa services throughout our group.
  • Access to craft and accredited training for all staff.
  • Meals provided during shifts – including for central office staff.
