Position Overview

The Pharmacy department at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and innovative professional to become a part of our welcoming team.

Applicants must hold a recognized qualification in Pharmacy Technology (such as BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NVQ level 3, or equivalent) and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. We encourage applications from those with hospital experience, as well as community technicians, including recent graduates and students nearing qualification.

Successful candidates will commence at a band 4 level, with the opportunity to progress to band 5 within a year.

Comprehensive induction and training will be provided to the selected individual.

Core working hours are Monday to Friday from 08:45 to 17:15, with participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota (approximately 1 in 8 and 1 per year, respectively).

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmaceutical Care Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough medicines reconciliations for patients to ensure accurate inpatient records reflecting their pre-admission medications.
  • Evaluating Patient's Own Drugs (PODs) for suitability.
  • Managing medication orders for patients through the dispensary to prevent missed doses.
  • Providing counseling to patients and/or caregivers regarding medications, including the distribution of relevant informational materials.
  • Facilitating the timely discharge process for patients.
  • Engaging in dispensary activities to assist with Accuracy Checking and/or dispensing tasks.
  • Serving as a role model for junior staff while offering supervision, support, and training.
  • Participating in audits aimed at enhancing service quality.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences / QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Desirable

  • QCF Level 4 or higher in a relevant qualification.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
