Position Overview

The Pharmacy department at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and innovative professional to become a part of our supportive team.

Candidates should possess outstanding communication abilities and thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. A friendly demeanor, adaptability, eagerness to acquire new skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth are essential.

Applicants must hold a recognized qualification in Pharmacy Technology (such as BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NVQ level 3, or equivalent) and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. We are particularly interested in candidates with hospital experience, although those from community settings are also encouraged to apply. Newly qualified individuals or students nearing qualification are welcome.

Successful candidates will initially be appointed at band 4, with the opportunity to progress to band 5 within a year.

Comprehensive induction and training will be provided to the selected candidate.

Core working hours are Monday to Friday from 08:45 to 17:15, with participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota (approximately once every eight weeks and once per year, respectively).

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmaceutical Care Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough medicines reconciliations for patients to ensure accurate inpatient records reflecting their pre-admission medications.
  • Evaluating Patient's Own Drugs (PODs) and assessing their appropriateness for use.
  • Ordering medications through the dispensary to prevent missed doses for patients.
  • Providing counseling to patients and/or caregivers regarding medications, including the distribution of relevant informational materials.
  • Facilitating the timely discharge process for patients.
  • Engaging in dispensary activities to assist with Accuracy Checking and/or dispensing tasks.
  • Serving as a role model for junior staff, offering supervision, support, and training.
  • Participating in audits aimed at enhancing service quality.
