Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Stress Engineer to join our team at Jefferson Wells. As a Stress Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical solutions in the form of steam turbines and condensers for power generation or propulsion. This will involve the execution of design contracts as well as lifetime management through build, assembly, commissioning, and test.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Analysis: Analyze components for strength in line with requirements outlined in contract documentation using finite element techniques and hand calculation methods.
  • Component Analysis: Analyze components for plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, fatigue, rupture, natural frequency, and heat transfer.
  • Load Analysis: Analyze components for loads from shock and operation.
  • Welding and Fatigue: Assist in weld type definition and check for strength and fatigue.
  • Design Improvement: Identify deficiencies in design through analysis techniques and propose improvements to features.
  • Safe Lifting: Analyze features and components for safe lifting during build and installation.
  • Non-Customer Equipment: As required, analyze non-customer equipment such as pressure test fixtures.
  • FE Modeling: Build FE models and write analysis plans.
  • Reporting and Presentation: Report writing and presentation material.
  • Design Reviews: Design reviews, customer presentations, and meetings.

Requirements:

  • Education: Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 7 plus years of analysis of mechanical components.
  • Software Skills: Experience in FEA packages, ideally Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Code Knowledge: Knowledge of ASME and DNV Codes.
  • Technical Knowledge: Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferable.
