Position Overview

The Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity to join our practitioner-led Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). Our MIU operates from early morning until late evening, providing essential care to our community.

This role is classified as Band 6, and we are keen to engage with both experienced Practitioners who are prepared to take on advanced practice responsibilities, including minor illness and pediatric care, as well as Aspiring Practitioners with a background in urgent care who are eager to enhance their skills and are nearing completion of a relevant minor injuries and illness training program.

Candidates should possess a strong enthusiasm for minor injury management, excellent communication abilities, and a dedication to delivering outstanding care as part of the MIU team. Adaptability and responsiveness to change are crucial, especially as we navigate an exciting phase of development within our MIU services. A solid understanding of professional standards and issues is essential.

The role requires a commitment to working flexible hours, including regular shifts that cover evenings and weekends. As a member of a small team, your flexibility will be vital to ensure the continuity of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a passion for minor injury care, effective communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality care as part of the MIU team. You will need to be adaptable and responsive to changes as we embark on an exciting journey of service enhancement. A comprehensive understanding of professional issues will be necessary.

- Deliver effective assessments and treatments to patients independently, utilizing evidence-based practices. You will be responsible for identifying care needs, managing treatment plans, and evaluating clinical interventions, all while reflecting the needs of patients accessing our services.

- Be accountable for the quality of patient care delivered within the unit.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant professional qualification for the position
  • Current professional registration (1st Level NMC/HCPC)
  • Postgraduate specialist training at degree level in a relevant field, including minor illness
  • Significant post-registration experience in MIU, Emergency Department, or similar settings, including education and mentorship

Desirable Qualifications

  • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
  • Mentoring qualification or willingness to pursue this qualification
