Job Summary

The NHS is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our Paediatric Allergy Team as a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner. This is a unique opportunity to work in a hospital-based setting, supporting the paediatric allergy specialist nurses and dietitians.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the paediatric allergy team in arranging day case admissions for hospital food challenges and supervised feeds.
  • Provide practical support on the daycare unit during admissions.
  • Assist the dietetic team in scheduling appointments and conducting nutritional analysis, updating prescription requests and arranging samples of nutritional products.
  • Participate in annual allergy audits.
  • Become competent in skin prick testing to support multidisciplinary allergy clinics.
Key Performance Indicators
  • To work using protocols and guidance to support qualified dietitians and ensure the effective implementation of dietetic treatment for patients.
  • To monitor patients on nutritional supplements at home or in school, together with home visits and telephone reviews.
  • To deliver clinics within a care framework, under the supervision of a dietitian.
  • To keep electronic records of all patient contacts on the trust's information system in accordance with departmental standards for record keeping.
  • To participate in the collection and collation of data for audit purposes.
  • To be computer literate and use dietary analysis programs, word processing and database management software packages.
Person Specification
  • Hold an NVQ level 4 in healthcare or equivalent experience.
  • Be committed to personal development.
Requirements
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills, especially under pressure.
  • Adaptability in communication style to suit various situations.
  • Experience of working with children.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Good spelling and grammar.
  • Computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of the need to protect vulnerable adults and children.
