Position Overview

We are seeking applications for a substantive Consultant role in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with a specialization in Gynaecological Oncology, Colposcopy, or Hysteroscopy.

The ideal candidate will possess clinical expertise in Gynaecology and have undergone specialized training in Gynaecological Oncology, Colposcopy, or Hysteroscopy. A solid background in acute gynaecological care, including early pregnancy management, is essential. Experience in Obstetrics and Labour Ward operations is also a requirement. Additional qualifications in other gynaecological subspecialties such as ambulatory gynaecology, subfertility, abortion care, menopause, adolescent gynaecology, and urogynaecology will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

This consultant position entails significant involvement in specialized clinics, including Gynaecological Oncology and Colposcopy. The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to MDT meetings and taking on a leadership role as necessary.

As part of our commitment to improving maternity risk assessment and acute care, we have enhanced our approach to high-risk Obstetrics and perinatal feto-maternal health.

The department is dedicated to advancing skills and enhancing subspecialist gynaecological services, which encompass ambulatory gynaecology, subfertility, menopause, adolescent gynaecology, and urogynaecology.

Job Duties

The women’s journey work stream of the Outstanding Maternity Services transformation project has identified the necessity for consultant involvement for women with risk factors. We have initiated a new project that integrates gynaecological acute and planned care under the OMS framework, and we welcome candidates with the experience and expertise to facilitate this transformation.

This role includes an Obstetric clinical workload alongside regular outpatient and elective theatre sessions. The job plan will allocate time specifically for patient care, and other areas of specialist interest within Gynaecology may also be incorporated into the job plan.

About Our Organization

Currently, our team comprises 23 consultants, including 4 dedicated Consultant Obstetricians on the out-of-hours on-call rota and 3 dedicated Consultant Gynaecologists on the Gynaecology on-call rota, alongside 14 consultants who cover both specialties.

The advertised position includes a non-resident on-call component for Obstetrics, with a consultant available for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology around the clock.

The Women’s Services Clinical Service Unit provides a comprehensive range of general and specialized inpatient and outpatient services. Our Obstetric services feature an Obstetric triage unit, a pregnancy-related bereavement support team, general antenatal clinics, and various high-risk clinics for women with specific health concerns.

We serve a diverse female population and facilitate a significant number of births annually, ensuring that our services are inclusive and responsive to the needs of our community.

Qualifications and Experience

We welcome applications from qualified Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Essential qualifications include:

  • Completion of an accredited training program in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or FRCS or equivalent to specialty (UK)
  • Membership in the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) or equivalent

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their CCT at the time of interview.
