Border Control Assistant

Shift Patterns: We are recruiting for two distinct shift patterns:

  1. 4 shifts on - 4 shifts off
  2. 4 shifts on - 2 shifts off

Shifts will rotate, requiring full flexibility.

The primary objective of this role is to assist and direct all incoming passengers to efficiently present themselves to the UK Border, while ensuring that baggage is processed through security safely and proficiently. This includes operating and overseeing the open collector baggage belt to maintain passenger safety and security.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist and guide arriving passengers to ensure they are processed through the appropriate channel based on their documentation or last departure point.
  • Support eligible passengers at the electronic passport gates or direct them to the referrals desk for those who are unable to use the gates.
  • Identify and guide passengers needing assistance through the assistance lane for processing by the relevant UK Border Force Officer.
  • Continuously monitor the electronic passport gates, ensuring they are never left unattended.
  • Manage barriers in the uni-feed system, ensuring they are operated at the right times to maintain an efficient flow in the queuing system.
  • Ensure the safe handling of baggage on the baggage belts and assist passengers with the bag drop-off process in the terminal.
  • Support the Team Leader in implementing any operational changes or decisions.
  • Provide feedback on operational issues and processes to enhance performance.
  • Ensure that all provided equipment is properly maintained, allocated, and utilized.
  • Exhibit flexibility with shifts according to business needs.
  • Adhere to procedures to guarantee passenger safety.

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • A friendly demeanor and approachability.
  • The ability to multitask and remain composed during busy periods.
  • Previous airport experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • The ability to provide a five-year vetting history to obtain an airside pass.
