About the Role

The Youth Coach Guide will oversee the provision of support and guidance to NEET youth in line with the Basic Package of Support (BPS) programme. This role requires a strong understanding of youth development principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide support and guidance to NEET youth in line with the BPS programme
  2. Support the mobilisers with recruitment of young NEETs onto the BPS programme
  3. Store and manage client information
  4. Quality implementation of the BPS tools and processes
  5. Assess a young person's current barriers to opportunities
  6. Support in the identification of goals, and the development of action plans
  7. Track progress against action plans
  8. Conduct and track referrals to various services
  9. Provide ongoing support and follow-up
  10. Establish and maintain a directory of quality referral services and resources
  11. Keep updated with future career trends and opportunities available to young NEETs
  12. Support the young NEETs to use partner platforms to identify and connect to opportunities
  13. Communication with clients' parents or primary caregivers, where relevant
  14. Participation in the Community of Practice
  15. Support the ongoing learning and development of Youth Coaches to enable quality delivery of the BPS programme
  16. Oversee the NACCW aspects of the implementation of the BPS to NEET youth
  17. Communicate effectively with youth
  18. Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviour
  19. Manage diversity
  20. Display strong leadership and management skills
  21. Use career information effectively for NEET youth
  22. Advance the employability of youth
  23. Advance the professional development of youth coaches
  24. Facilitate non-standardised self-exploration career assessments
  25. Demonstrate empathy
  26. Demonstrate optimism
  27. Use creativity when solving problems
  28. Display good time management
  29. Have computer skills at intermediate level
  30. Organisation and plan meetings
  31. Support the Site manager to manage stakeholder relations
  32. Plan diaries for youth coaches and self
  33. Promote and uphold the rights of children and youth
  34. Apply personal development strategies and skills to enhance effective service delivery
  35. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with youth, and their families
  36. Identify and analyse grassroot project needs & communicate it with the management and research team
  37. Provides support to youth coaches, mobilisers and project personnel in times of crisis
Stakeholder Relations
  1. Supports the site manager in representing the project at local and sub-district stakeholder meetings
  2. Consults with relevant stakeholders internal and/or external
  3. Advocates for the project in various contexts
Administration
  1. Adheres to SOP's
  2. Oversees data capture of youth coaches in an online case management system
  3. Report writing
  4. Conduct Youth Coach meetings
  5. Support and monitor implementation of target schedule
  6. Plans diary and monthly activity schedule for self and Youth Coaches
  7. Attend Site team meetings
Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Attributes) Required
  • FETC: Child and Youth Care Work or a Diploma in Child and Youth Development
  • If FETC only, studying towards a related qualification is essential
  • Must be registered with SACSSP
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Child and Youth Care Worker
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Senior Child and Youth Care Worker, leading a team of CYCWs
  • Intermediate computer skills and ability to work across various technology platforms
  • Experience working in youth development programmes for young NEETs (advantageous)
  • Experience delivering work-readiness training, or career guidance to young people (advantageous)
  • Willingness to travel
  • A valid driver's license and have driving experience is essential
