About the Role

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Domestic Services team as a Senior Cleaner. This is a key role in servicing departmental operations, leading by example and working closely with our facilities team to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a team of cleaners to ensure the thorough cleaning of all areas, including research laboratories, offices, teaching and meeting rooms, communal areas, stairways, WCs and washrooms.
  • Direct and participate in the collection, cleaning and return of laboratory glassware.
  • Ensure the safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Superintendent to develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the department's facilities, reporting any issues or concerns to the Facilities Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Good general education (GCSE /NVQ level 2) or equivalent level of practical experience.
  • Experience of laboratory and/or office cleaning, including the use of mechanical scrubber/polishing equipment.
  • Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
