About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team as a Director for Research Policy and Communications. This is a unique opportunity to lead our research, policy, and communications efforts and make a significant impact on our mission to help charities, funders, firms, and policymakers tackle the causes and consequences of low personal wellbeing in the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive research, policy, and communications strategy that aligns with our organisational objectives.
  • Lead a team of researchers, policymakers, and communications specialists to design, commission, and manage high-quality research and policy projects.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, social sector leaders, businesses, and media outlets.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of our digital presence, including our website and social media strategy.
  • Manage a budget and lead on generating income to support our research, policy, and communications work.
  • Represent PBE at a senior level in external forums, including through writing articles, speaking at events, and giving evidence to parliament.
About You

We are looking for an experienced and exceptional candidate with a strong track record of leading and influencing debates on high-profile social and economic issues. You will have expertise in designing, commissioning, and managing high-quality research and policy projects, as well as proven writing and presentational skills. You will also have a strong network of stakeholders in the social sector, private sector, academia, and among policymakers.

You will be a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the UK's charity, research, and policy communities. You will have experience of supporting organisational strategic development as part of a senior management team and be able to lead and motivate a team of researchers, policymakers, and communications specialists.

You will be a strong communicator with excellent writing and presentational skills, able to convey complex ideas and research findings to a range of audiences. You will also have a good knowledge of digital communications strategy and experience of website development, brand management, and using new media approaches to influence policy debates.
