About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Bioinformatics to lead our team in Cambridge, UK. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our bioinformatics strategy, driving product development, and managing a team of dedicated bioinformaticians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership direction for bioinformatics, data analysis, and machine learning, as well as product development.
  • Design and develop novel analytical and computational tools for diagnostics, including new assays.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and managing diverse teams.
  • Represent the department with clients, audits, vendors, and at conferences.
  • Write project and product proposals or plans.
  • Analyse and present data and project updates to the management team and clients.
  • Validate and translate new assays and/or new technology between R&D and Clinical Operations.
  • Provide support to research collaborations, clinical trials, and other department projects.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and documentation, including posters, papers, client presentations, and technical content for marketing materials.
  • Assist with department budgeting and administrative efforts.
Requirements
  • PhD or MSc in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related subject.
  • Strong background in Oncology, ideally liquid biopsy.
  • 5-10 years of post-study work experience.
  • Extensive experience managing teams of bioinformaticians.
  • Product development experience, through to commercialization.
  • Scientific software engineering in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • Proficient programming skills, including Python and R.
  • Experience with multiple NGS sequencing platforms and multiple sequencing types, ideally WGS, WES, and RNAseq.
