About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Healthcare Scientist to join our Immunology Laboratory team at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the diagnostic Immunology service, undertaking routine and research investigations, and contributing to translational research and clinical trials.

Main Responsibilities
  • Carry out laboratory investigations on paediatric samples, taking responsibility for quality and accuracy of results.
  • Add clinically relevant comments to laboratory reports, in line with laboratory policy.
  • Report and discuss quality and other issues with senior members of staff and those present at lab meetings.
  • Ensure analytical accuracy and confidentiality of results, observing the Data Protection Act and using the laboratory computer system.
  • Participate in research projects within the department and across the directorate and ICH.
  • Train and supervise technical staff, seconded trainee clinical scientists, clinical scientists, seconded SpRs, and overseas visitors.
  • Order reagents and equipment in line with Trust policy.

Person Specification

Essential

  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Science or completion of Grade A/STP Clinical Scientist training programme.
  • Familiarity with laboratory IT systems and other relevant software packages.
  • Previous substantial experience of working in a diagnostic UKAS accredited laboratory.
  • Experience of translational research and clinical trials.
  • Scientific and technical aptitude and ability to learn techniques quickly.
  • Experience in data handling.
