Position Overview

This role is for a senior consultant within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology division at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. The position has been created due to an increased demand for services within the department.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will engage in collaborative work across multiple sites, providing comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care. Responsibilities include managing both scheduled and urgent cases in obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as participating in the on-call schedule alongside fellow professionals, with support from junior medical personnel.

The role necessitates proficiency as a generalist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. A particular interest in high-risk pregnancy and antenatal management is preferred. The ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team is a critical requirement for this position.

Job Duties

Active involvement in both undergraduate and postgraduate training is anticipated.

Candidates must hold MRCOG or an equivalent qualification and should be registered on the Specialist Register or be within six months of achieving specialist registration at the time of the interview.

The position will be offered on a 10 PA contract in accordance with the Terms and Conditions for Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

This role is unlikely to qualify for a work permit. Applications from individuals requiring a permit to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other qualified candidates.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCOG or FRCOG or an equivalent qualification
  • Completion of a recognized training program in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (London) with a license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (within six months), CESR, or European Community Rights

Desirable

  • An additional higher qualification relevant to the specialty

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrated high-level clinical experience and competence in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as required of a UK CCT holder.
  • Proven clinical experience in managing high-risk obstetrics and associated medical conditions.
  • Ability to perform a range of surgical procedures independently.

Desirable

  • Previous consultant experience
  • Obstetric ATSM

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the principles of medical staff involvement in management
  • Willingness to engage in management responsibilities and activities within the NHS
  • Evidence of completing the clinical audit loop
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Awareness of national safety improvement drivers in maternity services
  • Strong organizational skills

Desirable

  • Attendance at a recognized management course
  • Management qualification or degree
  • Quality Improvement qualification

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Ability and enthusiasm to teach and mentor trainees and other staff groups (nursing, midwifery, non-clinical managers, undergraduates)
  • Knowledge of Undergraduate Medical Education

Desirable

  • Medical Education qualification
  • Involvement in Undergraduate Education administration

Research Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of clinical research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals

Desirable

  • Research qualification

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in both clinical and non-clinical environments
  • Capacity to prioritize workload while being aware of personal limitations.
